Lowering of the Rheinufer street Düsseldorf

The lowering of the Rheinufer street was a recognized redevelopment in the field of city planning covering an area of 27 ha and an entire length of 2600 m. The 1930 m long Rheinufer tunnel was the core of the project. It has a tube with two lanes and a hard shoulder in each direction. On a length of approx. 1000 m the tunnel tubes are positioned on top of each other.

Further characteristics: underground link to an underground car park with approx. 900 parking spaces in the section of a two-storeyed tunnel, underground and junction-free link to the city centre, construction of the lower part of the two-storeyed tunnel by means of the compressed air method.
