Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport
Construction of New Passenger Terminal
The existing Berlin-Schönefeld airport is being extended and upgraded to Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport (BBI). The new airport is planned to start operations in 2011 and with its capacity of 20 million passengers per year it will concentrate air traffic in the region at this location.
In the new passenger terminal the central arrival and departure functions are achieved in two main levels. This central part of the building is connected to a long, north-south facing pier building, which houses the air functions in three levels and enables direct transfer to and from the aircraft parked near the building as well as access to the bus gates for a link to remote parked vehicles.
