The section is a partial section of the rail connection Karlsruhe-Basel to be newly built and extended respectively in the area between Offenburg and Basel. It starts in the municipality of Herbolzheim and is
23.8 km long. In this section the already existing line Rheintalbahn will be extended to four tracks, the two new tracks being designed for a velocity of 250 km/h.
