Enhancement of the Berlin-Dresden line
Southern Section

Within the next few years, the railway line between Berlin and Dresden shall be improved to make it possible to run at speeds of v=200 km/h. In order to achieve this objective, the line will be, section by section, redeveloped, renewed and adjusted to the increased requirements.

This includes:
Partial improvement of the layout of the line
- Insertion of layers to protect the subgrade
- Widening of marginal ways
- New construction or adjustment of the railway bridges to the load UIC 71/SSW

Renewal of permanent way

- Redevelopment of subgrade drainage
- Modification of overhead contact system
- New construction of signalling plants in electronic interlocking technology
- Elimination of level crossings
- Modification/redevelopment of passenger traffic facilities
